Even though ‘Raindrops on roses… and warm woollen mittens’ are a few of my favourite things, what’s even better is the hint of spring in the air. Yes, it’s mid-February. That means the flowers are in full bloom, and it’s not abnormal to be scarfing down a tub of Baskin Robbins all by yourself anymore. It also means, the pure wool coats and extra warm jumpers can go back into hibernation - skirt season is almost back and I’m more pumped than an insomniac on red bull. And even though it isn’t completely time for skimpy skirts and dresses, it is time to switch to a transitional wardrobe. Speaking of which, skirts and dresses with a slit detail are pieces you need to add to it, stat. From shaking a leg to downing a peg (or two), I’ve narrowed down 10 side slit skirts and dresses that make waiting for spring a lot easier, and of course a lot more fashionable. Here they are:
The Egyptian Goddess
Not your average cocktail dress, this plain white midi dress = modern day Cleopatra feels. While the thigh-high slit steals the show, don’t miss the draped collar and exceptional tailoring. Accessorise with a rose gold cuff and matching skyscraper heels.
This sporty skirt will get you in touch with your inner Beyoncé and don’t you know it. If that daringly high slit is a little too risqué for you, improvise with a mini bandeau skirt under this one and you’re set. Club with a cropped tea and ankle length boots to finish.
Go ‘long’ this Feb, with this marsala slogan t-shirt dress. Slit at the knee for extra style points, it’s the perfect comfy chic fix you’ve been looking for. Mix it up by layering it with a cropped biker jacket, pumps and a matching crossbody bag - great outfit for weekend drinks with your BFF!
Shiny Disco Ball
With all the 80s style comebacks pouring in, the robust neon trend has got to be my favourite. And this striped and sequined skirt, is without a doubt, a wishlist topper. Take it for a spin the next time you’re out bar hopping - that slit won’t let you down while you’re shaking a leg on the dance floor. Promise.
Tux It In
You’ve hit a goldmine with this cream-coloured tux dress. Your work dinner outfit just got an upgrade, girls. I’m not complaining, and you bet your colleagues won’t be either. Pair with strappy heels, a matching clutch and a red lip… voila!
Rosé All Day
Thigh-high slit, check. Glittery belt, check. Same colour as your favourite kind of champagne, check. This one checks all the statement boxes. Rest assured, my hunt for a worthy birthday skirt has come to an end. Walk into any party with this skirt on - second glances guaranteed.
Another double slit wonder, this blue-grey dress deserves a standing ovation. Whether it’s cocktail hour or a fancy dinner you’re dressing for, my bet is on this dress. Slip into glittery heels, and accessorise with chandelier earrings for brownie points.
Your lunch date look just got a boho update. This belted maxi side slit skirt is the answer to your almost-spring wardrobe woes. Complete your look with a tucked in white shirt, pom pom flats and a satchel bag.
Take The Plunge
With the PJs-as-occasion-wear trend taking the world by storm, it’s time you delve right into it yourself. And this nightgown-meets-cocktail-dress star presents the perfect opportunity. Be as extra as you want when accessorizing - glittery clutch, heels and earrings are the way to go with this satin piece.
Sweat It Out
Another 80s comeback, striped side panels are a detail you need in your wardrobe all year ‘round. Zara keeps up with the street style trend and brings you this ankle length sweat skirt. Have a little fun while styling your look with it, won’t you? I’d wear it with a cropped hoodie, giant hoops and block heel sandals, how ‘bout you?
And if you're more of a pants person, find some with slits in them and you're good!
