Move Over Net, Banarasi Silk Lehengas Are The Cool New (& Evergreen) Bridal Trend

Every bride that I come across, be it in pictures or in person, is definitely unique in her own way but also quite similar to the other one. Confused?  Let me explain… The striking similarity among most brides is that 90 percent of them opt for a net or raw silk lehenga for their wedding. I understand the fascination, given that they look royal (and are voluminous) which contributes to a rich bridal look. But don’t you think it’s about time brides opted for something zara hatke? I recently saw a few brides wear a Banarasi silk lehenga for their D-day, and boy, did they look great?! Banarasi silk is not just a beautiful fabric, it has a lot of other qualities that make it a perfect choice for your wedding lehenga. Here are some reasons why I think more brides should opt for a Banarasi silk lehenga for their big day in 2018!

1. It’s super easy to style

Trust me when I say this, Banarasi silk is the easiest fabric to style. It looks good with different fabrics including raw silk, cotton, velvet and even chanderi. You can pair a silk lehenga with crop tops, juttis and quirky accessories to give it a modern look.

2. You can reuse it post your wedding

Banarasi silk is known for its rich colour, sheen and design. It’s not at all heavy and usually doesn’t come with any extra embroidery or embellishments. That makes it very easy to reuse even after your wedding. You can pair it with a simple cotton blouse and wear it to a friend’s or relative’s wedding. It’s an investment, really!

3. It’s not always heavy and it gives a very royal vibe

Since it comes sans embellishments and embroideries, it’s much lighter than other fabrics. And there’s no compromise on gorgeousness. Banarasi silk gives out a very royal vibe, especially when dressed up with the right kind of jewellery. It would be a good idea to add a heavy dupatta to the lehenga if you want to balance out your bridal look.

4. It looks good on every body type

A flowing silk fabric gives your body a softer silhouette, making you look shapely. Even if you have a slimmer figure, you can opt for a banarasi silk lehenga with extra added kalis that can give you a fuller look. Trust me, banarasi silk works for everybody!

5. It looks great when paired with other fabrics too!

Yes, and honestly, I really cannot say this about many other fabrics. You can easily pair a banarasi silk lehenga and dupatta with a cotton choli or a velvet blouse. It will not look out of place in any scenario, whatsoever. That’s the beauty of its versatility.

6. It is a classic

Banarasi silk is a very light and flowy fabric, which makes it suitable for all seasons. Unlike net, velvet and silks which can be irritating in hot climate, Banarasi silk is easy to wear and looks comfortable yet stylish.

Expert tip: You can always wear leg warmers under your lehenga or choose a thicker weave if you have a winter wedding, so that way it works for all seasons.

7. It’s a perfect mix of modernity and tradition

You can easily pair a Banarasi silk lehenga with a crop top or an off shoulder blouse for a bold bridal look. In fact, guests will be enamoured by your fusion avatar.
