Looking Back At Sridevi’s Stunning Style Evolution

Looking Back At Sridevi’s Stunning Style Evolution

If we were to describe Kim K’s transformation over the years in one word – DRASTIC! Not in a bad way of course, under Kanye’s “helpful” guidance, the woman has learnt to style neutrals like a PRO!

We racked our brains over who closer to home would come close to this level of ‘glamover’ and the answer was unanimous – Sridevi. Her life was the embodiment of a makeover done right.

Endless binge watching of What Not To Wear has taught us that when a procedure as sacred as a makeover is undertaken, it is imperative for the make-over-ee (if that’s a word) to make the rules they learn a habit and not something they do occasionally.

This seems to happen by default when you grow older, as age teaches the best makeover lessons (+ a team of stylists never hurt anyone). You finally come to terms with your body and that you need to learn to work with what you’ve got (insecurities who?), you learn what works best for you and your body, what trends to adopt and what trends to give a miss.

Let us illustrate this style evolution theory for you.

1. Accessorising To A Tee

Coco Chanel once said, “Always remove one thing before you leave the house. Less is more.” Most of us have difficulty grasping this concept, but Sridevi mastered the art of accessorising just enough.

2. Saree, Not Sorry!

It’s not just Sridevi that came a long way. The humble Indian saree did too. The styling, the fabrics, the variety of blouses. We’ll credit this particular transformation to Manish Malhotra, who was been styling her in the movies since the late 80’s.

3. Metallic Mania

Let’s not blame her for this one. ‘Twas the era of the dance-pop and Madonna, but look how gracefully she learnt to rock the metallic saree now.

4. Glamour Of Gold

Let’s blame Madonna for this one again, shall we? But pulling off a gold pantsuit and making it look chic and NOT like she just stepped out a Bappi Lahiri video, BRAVA!

5. All White

Clearly, she initially struggled with embracing white in all its simplicity, but she got around to making it work for her – a classic button-down with a maxi skirt.

6. Through The Looking Glass

Her spectacle game was always strong – an aviator frame to a perfectly round one.

7. Print Paraside

From bright and loud floral prints to chic co-ord pantsuits in autumnal colours, she did them all and worked them all.
