There’s More To These Neck Tattoos Seen At The Dior Spring 2018 Show

Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director for Dior is the woman responsible for the slogan T-shirts that took the runways and fashionistas by storm last season. Chiuri is famous for welding her political statements into her fashion. The iconic tees are now a staple in the Dior collection. Models and actresses alike sported these tees with slogans like “We Should All Be Feminists” and “Why Are There No Great Woman Artists?” Dior’s latest Spring 2018 collection featured the slogans as neck tattoos.

The entire Dior Spring 2018 Collection was inspired by Surrealism. Models were seen sporting surreal motifs and optic prints on gowns, pantsuits, and accessories. We absolutely loved the floating eye masks, and of course the French Surrealist phrases, too.

Makeup artist Peter Philips worked in sync with Maria Grazia Chiuri and embraced this surrealism with some stunning make-up on the eyes. Phillips said to SMH in an interview, “Surrealism is also a really important artistic movement for me. The aesthetic revolution made its mark and it still resonates today. Salvador Dali and Man Ray, as well as the German photographer Grete Stern are all references for me, and I particularly appreciate their provocative vision. Their artistic freedom inspired an extreme, excessive eye design.”

Collarbones of models were temporarily inked with pearlers. The temporary tattoos and their unique placement was like some sort of beautiful statement (quite literally) necklace. The quotes included phrases inspired by writings from André Breton of the Surrealist Manifesto. One of our favourite reads: “L’imaginaire est ce qui tend à devenir réel”—“The imaginary is what tends to become real.” We absolutely love this unconventional necklace, with a design so trendy and easily interchangeable…Who needs diamonds?

Other quotes like “Au départ il ne s’agit pas de comprendre mais bien d’aimer”—“In the beginning, it is not a matter of understanding, but of loving” and “L’amour est toujours deviant vous. Aimes!”—“Love is always before you. Love!” were also seen on models.

While we’re absolutely blown away by Chiuri’s sense of style, we can’t wait for Dior fans to sport these tattoos!
