#CleanBeauty: Here’s How You Can Get Your Glow On With Ayurveda

A quick glance at beauty aisles in most places you’ll easily be able to spot a lot of Ayurvedic ingredients, solutions and products. They are slowly making their way into the mainstream beauty industry too! Stand-alone brands like Kama Ayurveda and Forest Essentials aside, many drugstore brands are looking at Ayurveda to enhance their beauty products. We thought we’d delve a little deeper into some of the most common and effective Ayurvedic tips, to get a better understanding and start practising them ourselves!

Firstly, Identify Your Skin

According to Ayurveda, there are 3 different skin types known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Depending on which skin type you have, there are different treatments, diets and products that will work best for you. So, find out your skin type by doing a little research online visit an Ayurvedic practitioner nearby.

Vata (Dry Skin)

The Vata skin type is similar to people who suffer from dry skin. People with a vata skin type are vulnerable to cold, windy weather. The main concern for dry skin types is early ageing and dehydrated skin. Dry, dull skin usually causes your skin to age quicker.

Tip 1: It’s all about hydration!

Stay hydrated and find products that will nurture and pamper your skin. Vata skin is also said to be really thin and sensitive. This means that you need to be mindful of what products you use. Try to look for alternatives that are natural and include some essential oils in your regime. The healing benefits that are derived from essential oils in Ayurveda are unmatched! Luckily for us, a lot of Ayurveda companies make natural, organic products rich in essential oils. We suggest a good hydrating moisturiser combined with a facial mist to keep your skin from drying out.

Tip 2: Throw in an anti-ageing product in your twenties.

Pitta (Acne-prone Skin)

Kapha (Oily skin)

Kapha skin type tends to be of the oily skin type and is more tolerant of sun damage. It is also said that since this skin type is oily, that toxins tend to build up in the skin and in the pores.

Tip 1: Exfoliate once a week.

Exfoliate regularly…Oily skin leads to an enormous build-up of dead skin cells. These, in turn, make you look dull and clog your pores causing blackheads and whiteheads. Use a good face and body scrub and try to schedule a monthly clean-up at a reputable salon.

Tip 2: Maintain that pH balance.

Whatever your skin type, it’s best to have a good routine that you stick to. Always remember to use quality products and brands.
