‘Newton’ Didn’t Make The Cut For Oscars 2018, But These 9 Other Films Did!

While the country was of a unanimous decision that Rajkummar Rao gave a stellar performance in the movie Newton – India’s official nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018 – it has been reported that the movie didn’t make the cut.

According to the official website of the Oscars, 92 films had been originally considered for the foreign film category, out which a total of nine movies were announced to have proceeded to the next round of voting.

The original submissions of the category were screened by the Phase I committee, consisting of Los Angeles-based Academy members, between October and December. The final selections will undergo the second round of voting in New York, London, Los Angeles and, for the first time, the San Francisco Bay Area.

In the history of the Academy Awards, only three Indian movies have made it to the top 5 list of the Best Foreign Language Film category, namely: Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan: Once Upon A Time in India, but we are yet to bring home the golden statue for the same.

As for all the other awards, we will all have to wait just a little bit longer to see who takes home the golden statues as the 90th Oscars will be held on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
