Highlighting and contouring have completely changed the way I do my make-up. With a lot of trial and error, hits and misses, I’ve finally found my ultimate go-to set of products. If you’re anything like me, or if you’re trying to jump on-board the highlighter bandwagon...this post is for you! A good highlighter will give your inner-glow a boost on days when you’re feeling dull. The wrong highlight, however, will turn you into a shimmery disco ball! There’s a line, and it’s pretty fine. To ensure you’re on the right side of that line, we’re here to help.
These highlighters are best suited for Indian skintones and will take you from low to WOW in a split second. Just wave your magic wand and you’re all set. Let the boys worry about being dazzled!
A powder highlighter is an extremely versatile product, there are so many ways you can use it to get that glow. Wearing a strapless top? Dust some highlighter on your collarbones and shoulder blades! Wearing a sexy LBD? Brush some on your legs and watch them shimmy and shine while you strut! Our absolute favourite highlighters are:
Save: Makeup Revolution Pro Highlighter - Illuminate (Rs 850) is a gorgeous, gold-toned highlighter perfect for adding a subtle glow to your face and body. The size of the pan on this one is HUGE! So you’re getting total value for money here.
Spend: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter (Rs 1,699) is a honey gold-toned highlighter that brightens up your face in a subtle veil of glow. Layer this one up to shine bright like a diamond!
Splurge: BECCA - Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop (Rs 3,380) is a stunning champagne gold highlighter. It’s ideal for days when you want your highlight to pop. This one will take you from 0-100 in a jiffy. A little bit of this goes a long, long way, so start your way up slowly.
Make-up artist Vidya Tikari gives us some pointers on picking the right highlighter. “The highlighter should complement your skin, the wrong shade of highlight will turn ashy or grey on your skin! Gold and champagne toned highlighters work best with Indian skin. Stay away from shimmery highlighters, they accentuate pores and uneven skin. The best kind of highlight will give you a natural, lit-from-within glow.”
