Beauty Commandments Thou Shall Follow For A Great Skin Year!

Beauty Commandments Thou Shall Follow For A Great Skin Year!

The new year brings a chance to start fresh and do away with all that’s old (and negative). While your life goals could vary from going vegan or joining a Vinyasa class you’ve been meaning to, we thought we could lend a hand with some beauty resolutions too! Here are a few things to put in practice to make sure you find your beauty-zen! Don’t worry, we’re doing these with you!

1. I shall de-clutter my dresser.

My dresser is home to more than 20 lipsticks out of which I only end up using 5 at the most. And I’m sure I’m not alone. Take out an afternoon to sort through your make-up and skincare buys. Sort them out into things to keep, throw and use.  Remember you should toss out anything that is older than 6 months (especially mascaras) even creams that smell weird. Once you’re done, you can store them in boxes and organise your vanity too. This is going to cut a chunk of time out of your morning routine, trust me!

2. I will (finally) ditch bad beauty habits.

Do you bite your nails? Touch your skin too often or love to pop zits? 2018 would be a great year to ditch them. Start by writing down why it’d be great for you to stop doing these things. Set reminders for small things like drinking more water or cutting out sugar. Remind yourself why you need let go of these habitsremember, willpower is everything! And once you’ve crossed that hurdle, treat yourself with your favourite beauty indulgence!

3. I promise to go a little extra.

Have you been skipping going to your dermatologist? Or putting off buying hair supplements? Remind yourself that your skin and hair goes through a lot pollution, chemicals, UV damage so wouldn’t it be great if you go that extra mile?  Stock up on biotin and Omega-3, make an appointment with an expert and prep for your meals in advance to add salads, seeds and more!

4. I vow to stop hoarding make-up.

There’s no doubt that the beauty industry is expanding–in fact, it’s doing so at an alarming rate. With new brands, newer collections, the temptation to experiment with make-up is higher than ever. But it’s a good idea to stand back and think: how much is too much? Do I really need 6 highlighters? Is my make-up too cakey? Try not to get caught up in the hype. Remember, your pores need to breathe too. So make sure there are a few days when you don’t cake up the base and let your skin be.

5. I will start using an eye cream.

We’ve been saying it for as long as we can remember. I say it to myself every night too. All that texting at night and squinting at your screen causes fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Opt for a good eye cream with peptides or retinols and make sure you dab some on every day. Stash them on your bedside table or make it a habit to apply an eye cream before you put on any make-up. Remember, the skin on the under eye area is more delicate than the rest of your face.

6. I vow to accept who I am.

Be it eating more salads, to taking off your make-up or getting porcelain-like skin, we all have our bucket list goals. But it’s very important to not equate it with your self-esteem. How you view your physical self can affect your mood, energy and your attitude. Make sure you accept the way you are and are positive about it.
