How much do you make at the job you do? Do you think your male coworker makes more than you for the same job he does? You’re probably right! We have been talking about equal rights for men and women since ages but not much has changed! Specially when it comes to getting payed for a job. Women are still paid less than men for the same job. And if you’re thinking that this only happens to ordinary women in ordinary jobs, then you should know that celebrities and women in leadership positions in Fortune 500 companies also face it.

Closer to home, did you know that Kareena Kapoor was offered the role of Naina in Kal Ho Na Ho but the role was later passed on to Preity Zinta because Kareena asked for the same fee as Shah Rukh Khan. Karan Johar and Kareena didn’t speak for 9 months and the director talks about how stupid he feels about it in his autobiography, ‘An Unsuitable Boy’.

And after Tanu Weds Manu, Kangana Ranaut spoke up in one of her interviews that she (and all other actresses) deserves to get payed as much as the men in the industry. Joining hands with her are the other leading ladies of Bollywood who have had a taste of Hollywood where they faced a similar problem.

According to Monster Salary Index, women in India earn 25% less than men. And this problem isn’t only faced by Indian women. In the United States, it was found that women are paid only 80 percent of what men are paid.
