Why Prince Charles & Camilla Actually Visited Delhi. Hint: It Has To Do With Elephants

It was a royal affair at the British High Commissioner’s residence in New Delhi as Their Royal Highnesses, Charles, The Prince of Wales and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, visited the country to attend the official Elephant Parade India.

What is the Elephant Parade?

It is a social enterprise that runs the world’s largest art exhibition of decorated elephant statues. The life-size, baby elephant statues are showcased in international cities for the conservation of these gentle giants.

The campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the dwindling numbers of the endangered Asian elephants, which have fallen by 90% in the last century. Due to rapid shrinking of wild habitat, elephants and human beings have been competing fiercely for the availability of land and food for survival, and constant threats of poaching and capturing elephant calves for tourism are still prevalent. The funds raised from the parade will aide in securing 101 elephant corridors across India.
