These Women Kicked Ass At The Emmy Awards 2017 & We. Can’t. Even.

Women ruled the night and emerged the biggest winners in Hollywood last evening at the star-studded 2017 Emmy Awards.

‘The things that make us different, those are our superpowers’

Lena Waithe made history at the event for being the first African American woman to win an award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series - Master of None, along with her co-writer Aziz Ansari. She received a standing ovation from the audience, and her overwhelming speech moved everyone who was watching!

Take a look at the speech below:

After all that’s said and done, we know #LoveWins

Remember when we all rooted for Kelly and Yorkie for their happily ‘ever after’ in Black Mirror’s episode ‘San Junipero’ and caught all the feels? Well, brace yourself for uninhibited joy, as the episode won not one, but TWO awards - Outstanding Made-For-TV Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special! Can we hear a woot-woot?!

Breaking records and stereotypes - all in a day’s work!

The Handmaid’s Tale grabbed four Emmy wins for one of the most coveted categories - Reed Morano took home the award for Outstanding Director, becoming the first woman in 22 years to win for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series!

The show also won the overall category, beating the tough contenders like House of Cards, Stranger Things, and Westworld.

Other glorious wins for women included Big Little Lies (Outstanding Limited Series), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who became the first performer to win six Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series awards for her character Selina Meyer in Veep.

With women shattering the glass ceiling, and breaking out of stereotyped roles in film and TV industry, we think it’s safe to quote Queen Bey and ask: Who run the world?! GIRLS!

If you’re a fan of Black Mirror and enjoy dystopian themes, get yourself a paperback copy of The Last One for Rs 478.
