Mascara is both my absolute must-have and my biggest indulge. I have one stashed away in every purse. I have inherent dark circles, so a concealer doesn’t quite cut it to make me bright eyed and bushy tailed. The mascara makes me feel confident, look awake and gives my eyes that oomph. I’d prefer a really lengthening and volumizing mascara over falsies. If I could carry only two items with me everyday, they would be a mascara and a foundation.
So I went ahead and compared some of the bestselling mascaras the world over so you don't have to! I’ve rated each mascara out of 5, on the basis of their performance. Scroll through to see how some of the best mascaras in the market look on my lashes. These are my go-to fail-proof formulas that give me long, luscious lashes.
And ladies, in case you didn’t already know this, you need to replace your mascara every 3-6 months.
The Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara gives my lashes XL length and volume. It coats and separates each lash giving you the most natural, yet very dramatic lift. Two coats and you’re lashes are going to be long, curly and gorgeous! I love that the brush is shaped like an hourglass, so it gets the tiny lashes too. The availability in India may be a bit of a hassle, this mascara typically costs $23 in the US, I would suggest stocking up when you travel or asking your NRI BFF / relatives to get you one.
Much like the Too Faced mascara, the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara is another one of those must-indulge in products. Tarte is a vegan brand, for all those of you who believe in cruelty-free make-up. The wand is classic and simple and ensures that the mascara coats each lash making them black, voluminous and curled. The formula is buildable, I can get away with upto 3 coats without clumping! It is VERY long wearing, and you’ll need a good oil-based make-up remover to get this mascara off. How gorgeous is the holographic packaging on this limited edition one?
The Clinique High Impact Mascara does justice to it’s name, your lashes will make a bold statement. The mascara has a jet black formula and leaves you with fuller, longer, dramatic lashes. Two to three coats of this mascara is all you need for flirty eyes! The formula of the mascara is quite wet, so be careful while applying to avoid clumps.
Rating: 3.5/ 5
For the longest time in college, I used the Maybelline New York Colossal Volum Express Mascara and I still love it! It has a huge wand that coats all my lashes and it’s very budget friendly. It however doesn’t do much of lengthening and thickening of lashes. If you naturally have long, luscious lashes - this is your go-to mascara
The Maybelline New York Hypercurl mascara really does hold in a curl on your lashes all day! I use my lash curler before using this mascara and my lashes remain curly all day! Although it wasn’t lengthening, I loved how my lashes could hold in the curl. This is a great budget buy if you have straight almost flat lashes that don’t hold a curl. I would however recommend going over this mascara with another one for the added volume and length.
My beauty hack is to use disposable mascara applicators for mascara formulas that are too wet and thick. This is the best way to avoid clumpy spidery lashes. Apply one coat of your mascara, and comb it out using the disposable mascara wand, and that’s it!
The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is my absolute holy grail mascara. It gives my lashes the best length, volume and looks very natural. The formula is not too wet so there are no clumps between applications. It gives your lashes a false lash effect and looks stunning in photos!
