All relationships are fraught with complications. Sometimes we are able to trudge through them and emerge victorious, other times it is just best to let go and start afresh. Here are 9 questions you could ask yourself before giving him a second chance.
1. Is it worth it?
Are we willing to let bygones be bygones and start towards building something new?
2. Would he put up a fight for you as well?
It is important to value your worth and give credit where credit is due. If you are bending over backward to make the relationship work, he should want to do that as well.
3. Does he deserve it?
Yes, everyone makes mistakes. But has he come around and made efforts to change himself if he has been the one at fault?
4. Are you still in love with him?
In many ways, love does make the world go round. If your ex still brings a smile to your face and you have butterflies in your stomach every time you see him, you are still utterly besotted with him and that feeling in itself should make you give him a second chance.
5. Why do you want to get back together?
Ladies, it is not enough that you both managed to remain amicable after your breakup or that he knows you well and starting all over would be, well, difficult. If need be, make a pros and cons list before you give him a second chance.
6. What caused you to part ways?
Not whose fault it was, but what was the fundamental roadblock in your relationship which kept you from moving forward. Are you sure that you will be able to fix it this time around?
7. Did you have time to process the events?
That you had parted ways, that you had consciously decided to not have him as an important part in your life anymore. That you had begun to heal and look inwards and finally heal. Have you had time to think about these issues in detail?
8. Is this a rebound?
We all have distinctive behavioural patterns, they make us depend on some people more than others. Your ex could be one of them, so you need to figure out if you are falling back on him just for the sake of it.
9. Did you have an honest discussion with him?
That maybe you feel a bit broken but you are willing to work things out only if he approaches the relationship with the same positive spirit?
If your answers are all affirmative, by all means girl, do give him and yourself a chance to revive and work on your special relationship. But if not, then maybe it is time to move on.
