I had been interning with a senior auditor at a firm for more than a year now and it was finally time for me to get my own assignment. I had been waiting for this day for a long time and I was pretty happy to get this chance. I and my senior entered the building and it was honestly a little overwhelming. I was also a bit nervous, but we did it anyway.
We entered the office and I was looking at office staff while my senior was speaking to someone. He then called me to introduce me to him. He was a really good looking guy and I kinda had a small crush on him, instantly. I smiled and introduced myself to him. I started dreaming about Akshay, from that day onwards.
My liking for Akshay had grown… He was trying to talk to me and make me feel comfortable. We ended up spending the day with each other and exchanged our numbers for official purposes.
We were talking about work when he suddenly picked up a call in the middle of our conversation and answered, ‘Just coming down, papa. Sorry, I know we’re late.’
Then while we were going down, he introduced me to him and I went completely mad thinking that he introduced me to his father. During the course of the audit, we spent several hours together. We’d often have meals together after long meetings and shared a few personal details along the way. Of course, we got closer over time and each time he let me into his world just a little more.
One day, when he wasn’t in office, I heard someone walk up to my room. It was a woman. She opened the door and entered with Akshay’s father. His father introduced me to him and told me, ‘Hey Sonali, meet my daughter Aditi.’ He introduced me to her. We exchanged greetings and went about with our day.
Almost after a month, he invited me for lunch. I was really happy and I thought may be, just may be, he likes me too. He ordered my favourite dishes, as we’d spent a lot of time together otherwise in meetings.
He casually held my hand once or twice while we were talking to each other which made me feel special. Just when I began to think that he felt the same way I did, his father and Aditi came into the meeting room. I still thought he probably wanted me to spend time with his family too for our better future.
He left my hand and dragged one chair and asked Aditi to sit. I was kinda shocked why he left my hand and asked her to sit in between. He was very close to her and held her hand and I was a bit jealous and uncomfortable.
It was hurting me a lot and I kept thinking why are Aditi and Akshay were behaving like couples when they’re siblings! Uncle looked at me and said, ‘They are made for each other na?’ and said Aditi was Akshay’s wife and he was his son-in-law.’
I couldn’t believe that he never told me that he was married! I was shocked and taken aback. This small misunderstanding broke my heart like I never thought I would. I had never imagined this would happen to me, but it did.
