It was a lovely sunny day in Thailand. I was vacationing with my family on the gorgeous coral islands of Pattaya. The beauty of that island was that it was relaxing and at the same time buzzing with activity. From scuba diving to parasailing, this patch of heaven had it all!
I was struggling to find signal to video call my boyfriend but all my efforts were in vain. So, I had no option left but to switch off my phone and spend time with my family. After having lunch, my sister went off to click pictures of the scenery, my parents decided to take a nap at the resort and I went for a stroll on the beach, alone.
Walking on the white sand and watching the crystal clear water from afar felt like I was in a dream. The sun was beginning to set and the salty breeze calmed my nerves. For once, I was away from Facebook, not messaging my boyfriend or listening to music. All was calm until I felt someone tap on my shoulder. As I turned around, I saw this tall, buffed and gorgeous man standing in front of me.
He greeted me with a smile and asked me if I was alone. I don’t know if it was his charm or the twinkle in his eyes, but I nodded. We walked on the beach and suddenly I felt his arm intertwined with mine. Before I could tell him that I have a boyfriend, he pulled me closer and planted a passionate kiss on my lips. I was in shock! He told me that he’s always had a thing for brown-skinned and petite women.
And just like that, he waved goodbye and left my side. I mean, who does that? Even though it was so random, I have to admit that the kiss was short and sweet. The strange part is that I didn’t even get the chance to ask his name and neither did he know mine.
I returned to the resort feeling a little awkward. I didn’t know what to say and more so, whom to tell? Not my family or my sister and, definitely NOT my boyfriend. It’s not like I was leading him on. I was just being nice, for pete's sake! Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that I would get kissed by a stranger in Thailand.
After giving it much thought, I decided to keep the fact that I was kissed by a foreigner, a secret. No one needed to know about it and besides, if anyone did come to know, it could damage many of my relationships. Even after I came back to India, I put the past behind me and moved on with my life. I don’t detest the awkward encounter, neither do I cherish that memory. I believe what happens in Thailand stays in Thailand.
