10 Period Myths Guys *Really* Need To Stop Believing!

Some illogical, some bizarre and some funny myths about periods have been doing the rounds for as long as we can remember. We’ve all grown up believing myths about menstruation that are probably untrue and so have guys. Here are 10 period myths guys should stop believing right now!

Myth 1: Girls can’t get pregnant if they have sex during their period

Having unprotected sex can cause pregnancy and there’s no way a girl can be completely sure of not getting pregnant even when she’s on her period. This is because the sperm can live inside the body for 3-5 days and ovulation can occur during or soon after the bleeding stops.

Myth 2: It hurts like a wound when girls bleed during periods

Nope, it doesn’t. It’s not the vagina that hurts when we bleed. It’s the cramps in the uterus that cause all the pain, which isn’t anything like what happens when one gets a bruise or a wound.

Myth 3: Periods start randomly

While periods can be irregular for many girls, most of them have a cycle that varies from person to person. The normal menstrual cycle can range anywhere from 21 to 45 days.

Myth 4: Chocolates resolve all period problems

We know you guys want to make us feel better with chocolate but it isn’t going to help us get through the five horrible days of our period. While it sure does make our mood a little better, we sometimes do resort to painkillers for the cramps.

Myth 5: PMS is not a real thing

It is a real thing, guys! No matter how much we wish it wasn’t. PMS stands for Premenstrual Syndrome and that causes mood swings, bloating, irritability and even makes the female body parts a little sensitive.

Myth 6: Girls start bleeding on the exact same date every month

Like we mentioned, every girl has a cycle that her body follows but the date can change because of a variety of reasons. Travelling, stress, exercise, diet change or even weight gain can make a difference on a woman’s period cycle.

Myth 7: Period sex is unhygienic

It might just be a little messier than usual, but it isn’t unhygienic at all. Especially not if you’re using a condom and have access to a hot shower.

Myth 8: Girls don’t feel turned on during their period

FALSE! Happy surprise, most of us feel really turned on when we’re on our period. So if you actually fell for this myth, it’s time to change tactics and start dirty talking! *Wink*

Myth 9: All sanitary napkins are the same

We’re spoilt for choice, even here! Some are thin, some are wide, some are long and others have a layer of extra protection – and all these little things serve a different purpose. So the next time we ask you to buy a pack, you should probably get that specific one we asked for!

Myth 10: Menstrual blood has a foul odour

Nope, it just smells like blood. Storing the blood in sanitary pads for an extended period of time, and the bacteria that grows because of it, is what produces the odour.
