10 *Weird* Hair Hacks That Actually Work (Try Them Now!)

We have tried or at least heard of all kinds of beauty tricks to achieve flawless skin and luscious locks – some normal and some pretty whacky! The bizarreness of the tricks has never stopped us from trying out new hacks before, so, why should it now? 1. Gelatine for volume

Mix a little gelatine to your regular volumizing shampoo and watch your hair bounce up with life. It adds way more volume than regular thickening shampoo which means you’ll have to use lesser hair products while styling it!

2. Tame flyaways with a toothbrush

Hate stubborn and frizzy flyaways? Pro tip: Take a toothbrush and spritz it with hairspray before brushing through your flyaways. It works like a charm and won’t cause stiffness!

3. Swim-proof your hair

This works even if you spend a lot of time at the beach. Coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner before you hit the water to protect your hair from chlorine and salts that can dry out your hair. This little trick will help make your hair colour last longer too!

4. Baby powder to refresh greasy locks

4 weird hair hacks

Too lazy to wash your hair? Well, get rid of excess oil by dusting a bit of baby powder on your roots and massaging it in. Just like a dry shampoo, it will absorb all that grease and help your locks look so much fresher, in a jiffy!

5. Curl your hair using toilet paper rolls

Don’t throw away TP rolls, use them as makeshift curlers for natural large waves. Just wrap sections of your hair around each roll, secure it with a pin and finish off with a light spritz of a medium hold sea salt based hair spray. This will add some volume and definition to your locks, and about half an hour later you have heat free waves that everyone will be envious of!

6. One ingredient shampoo

Baking soda! Mix it with some rose water or just regular water and apply it to the scalp and rinse. It removes product build up in a jiffy and leaves you with clean and shiny locks. It’s a great alternative to any store-bought shampoo.

7. Beer rinse for shiny locks

This one has been around for some time now but is still worth a mention. Beer works wonders in adding volume and shine to hair. It seals the hair cuticle allowing it to reflect light and appear shiny. Don’t go overboard with it though, it still contains alcohol and can dry out your hair if used in excess. Dilute it with water to reduce the stripping effects of beer.

8. Avocado isn’t just a toast topping

One of the best natural hair conditioners around. Just mash some avocados and mix it up with a carrier oil of your choice and voila, you have one of the most effective deep conditioning masks ever. Leave it on your hair for at least 30  minutes to reap the full benefits of this concoction and unveil lustrous luscious locks.

9. Strip excess hair colour with dish soap

Yes! This is bizarre but it works. Use it only as a last resort and no matter what, don’t get habituated to doing this. Dish soap can actually remove hair colour up to 2 shades (depending on your hair). If your hair colour turned out to be darker than you had imagined, just add a drop of dish soap to your shampoo, it will save you a trip to the salon for a post-colour lightening session.

10. Artificial sweeteners are a boon for sensitive scalp

10 weird hair hacks

Mix an artificial sweetener with water to make a fine paste and coat your scalp with it. In a few minutes, wash off and your scalp will be less sensitive than it was before. Another trick you can try is to add 2 packets of artificial sweeteners to your colour formula when colouring, to help protect a sensitive scalp. Remember, a healthy scalp means healthy hair!
