#MyStory: I Got Pregnant On My Honeymoon And…

Namit and I got married in the summer of 2015. It was an arranged marriage, and our courtship period was a good seven months long. We got to know each other very well, we had the same mindset and our wavelengths matched one another’s. He and I were both IT professionals, so we understood each other’s jobs pretty well too. I was 25 when I got married and it wasn’t the way I had planned it. I wanted to go abroad and study further before settling down. That’s when Namit entered my life and I knew he was the one. They say, when you find the person, you cannot wait to start your life with them. So it began.

Our wedding was a full blown marwari shaadi. It was a three-day event and people had come from all over the world. I left my job, thinking I would get back to work after all the wedding celebrations got over. He and I both worked in Delhi, that’s why it didn’t seem like too much of a problem. I had been planning to quit that job anyway and was looking out for other work opportunities. So this was the apt time to take a break.

The wedding went off smoothly and we had to leave for our honeymoon in Paris after a week. We consummated our marriage on our first night and the honeymoon was obviously a very exciting time.

After an amazing ten days in Europe, we got back and carried on with our lives. I started job hunting and Namit got back to his work. The hunt was going on fine, and I even had a few interviews lined up. Some of them were great opportunities. A better salary and a better position too. I was very excited about it until I found out that I was pregnant.

Internal pregnant on my honeymoon

It was too soon, I thought at first. It had only been a month since we got married and I was pregnant! I didn’t know whether to feel happy about this or not. Namit and I were completely against abortion so we decided to go ahead and have the baby. The job interviews were put to a halt. Our married life had taken a different direction. My life had changed in the course of a few months. First the marriage, then the baby. So quickly we had multiplied, It was hard to embrace all of this. While I was still getting to know Namit and his family and friends, there was an added dimension in our lives. It definitely affected our personal life too. It was all we were talking about. It was all we were thinking about.

The whole period went off well. I started concentrating on keeping healthy while Namit was very supportive. Many people in the beginning would feel bad for me saying this had happened too soon, but I ignored them because becoming a mother was a wonderful experience. I have a three-year-old boy now, who we named Dhruv. He is the apple of my eye!

I did no job interviews, the plan to study abroad was cancelled, and suddenly, all that I was thinking about was motherhood. It was a lot to give up at first, but now Namit and I make time to go out for romantic dinners and hang out with friends too. My life changed but I learnt to enjoy this too!

Maybe when Dhruv is a bit older, I will start working again and do an online course to enhance my skills. For now, I am just enjoying my time with my family. Getting pregnant on my honeymoon was actually quite a blessing.
