Confessions Of A Girl Who Tried Bikini Waxing… At Home!

Giving bikini waxing a shot at home has ALWAYS been something I’ve wanted to try. I mean, I’ve tried sugar waxing at home (on my legs), but never gathered the courage to try this one out. In fact, I’ve only tried getting a bikini wax done *once* at a salon.

Oh gosh! I can’t tell you how excruciating the pain was. But after all that was said and done, I was sold by the result. Everything down there felt so smooth and baby soft. I could boldly wear my swimwear and skimpy lingerie without worrying about any trace of fuzz. It felt so good that despite the pain, I wanted to give it a shot again! Since I’m always up for a good beauty challenge, I was game for giving myself one at home.

For a good three weeks, I didn’t shave or wax down there. All I did was exfoliate and massage the area every single day for three weeks. In the meantime, I had ordered my kit, and it took a week to get delivered at home.

As soon as I received the package, my heart started racing. I mean, was I really going to give it a shot? At some point, I even thought that this probably isn’t a good idea, but then, I remembered that I’m no quitter, I would try it out no matter what the results turned out.

I chose a weekend to do this. Since it was a lazy Sunday, I could relax, be patient and do it at my leisure. I figured that rushing through the process definitely wasn’t a great idea. So I woke up in the morning, bathed in lukewarm water and to be safe, I trimmed the hair down there ‘coz you know, the longer the hair, the more the pain, right?

I heated the wax and allowed it to cool for a minute. I also applied some baby powder to the area, because anyone who’s ever been waxed knows that you must do that! Placing a mirror in between my legs, I dipped the wooden stick into the hot wax and gently applied a thin layer of wax at the smallest and topmost area of my pubic region. I would like to add that this was when my nerves started getting the better of me and I really began to doubt whether this was a good idea. But oh well, nothing I could do then other then pull!

Pulling strip by strip, I finished my sides, and stopped just before I could reach all the way down. My goal was just to tidy up the front, sides and slightly down below. (And yes, it hurt like a b*tch!)

After A LOT of patience, pain and anxiety, the area not just looked clean, but pretty flawless as well. I used a pair of tweezers to pluck the remaining hair. After washing, I applied some baby oil to soothe the area and prevent dryness down there.

I remember the next couple of days, I didn’t touch the area at all. It was only at the third day I continued to exfoliate and moisturize after.

As a whole, the experience was fairly decent. Concentrating on your breathing and playing loud, distracting music can make the pain more bearable for sure.

Time, precision and patience is what you need to ace bikini waxing at home, or… you can get it done in under 30 minutes at the nearest salon (I took over an hour!) and leave it to the professionals to take care of it!

Here’s my question, given a chance, would you try it at home? I would LOVE to know about your thoughts and experiences. (Psst… bikini waxing tips are welcome too!)
