8 Makeup Products NO Bride Should Ever Wear On Her Shaadi!

Makeup-related decisions aren’t easy, more so, when it comes to your bridal look. You’ve probably experimented a lot with makeup and have figured out by now the many products that you feel you ought to have in your kit for the big day. But take a step back and keep reading about which makeup products you should definitely not use on your wedding!

1. Lip gloss

You’re aren’t in your early teens so skip the lip gloss and invest in some good lipsticks. Lip gloss may feel and taste awesome but it looks washed out, especially on camera, if not worn correctly. Since they aren’t really long lasting you might end up sans colour on your lips midway through the celebrations. Save yourself the trouble of having to double check and re-apply, and switch to actual lipsticks that are built to last. Choose from the mattes, sheers and creamy ones to complement your look.

2. Mismatched foundation

Your foundation has to match your skin exactly. There are no two ways about that. Even if you were able to pull off a shade or two lighter or darker in natural light, now is not the time to use it. Invest in a good quality foundation and test the colour on your jawline (never on your hand) and see if it matches your skin tone exactly after being blended in. Take a snap with flash and also check out the colour in natural light to be doubly sure that it works for you. Even if the shade is just slightly off, it will show on camera especially with the flash, leaving you looking either ashy and pale or just plain tanned.

3. Shimmer lipsticks

No matter the trend, this is something you’ll want to avoid. Your outfit and the venue are probably already ostentatious enough and you don’t need your lips looking a child’s craft project, so skip the shimmer lipsticks. The shimmer dries out your lips leaving them cracked and needing constant reapplication, and what’s worse is that the shimmer settles into the fine lines making it look just plain tacky. Save your makeup experimentation for another time and stick to the classics – cream and matte finish sans shimmer.

4. Glitter eyeshadow

The same logic applies here too, less is always more. Skip the elaborate glittery eye look. Whether you want a nude look or a smokey eye, it can all be done without glitter. A light shimmer in the powder looks good as the camera flash has something to bounce off of. But glitter just settles into lines easily, dries your skin and God forbid, it smudges, you’ll end up looking like a disco ball!

5. BB/ CC creams

These multi-taskers are some of our favourite beauty products to use but it is wise to skip these lightweight, low-coverage babies for their slightly heavy duty counterparts (aka foundation) for your wedding day. The coverage is definitely better with a foundation and getting your exact shade is certainly easier with foundations than with BB/ CC creams. Save the BB/ CC creams for your honeymoon where you’d want a relaxed and simpler look and possibly lesser coverage.

6. Powdery base makeup if you have dry skin

Powder compact/ foundations or liquid to powder formulae are all a big no-no for anyone with dry skin. They may work for short periods of time but powders dry out your skin and this could leave your skin looking dull and lifeless. The last thing you want is patchiness and powder settled into any fine lines you may have. Stick to creamier formulae to make sure you look luminescent and radiant throughout.

7. Heavy mascara

We all love big lashes but try on falsies instead of a mascara to eliminate the risk of any runny mascara. You’re going to be dancing and those emotional moments during your wedding can spell havoc for your makeup. Try on falsies or use clear mascara if you absolutely must to make sure your bridal look is picture perfect at all times!

8. Oil-based makeup if you have oily skin

It will slip right off and has no staying power whatsoever especially on oily skin. You’ll end up looking oily and that oil is going to attract grime and dust. Skip oil-based makeup entirely if you have oily skin. Use lightweight formulas to suit your skin and be sure to bake your face with powder and finish off with a setting spray. All these elements will hold your makeup together, especially on oily skin.
