"Running your own business is no easy feat, to do so while raising two kids is even tougher. My days start early and usually end pretty late. I get up at 6.30 am and everything is super rushed till the kids head out for school. After that I put in a full day of work in the office, but the great part of my job is that no two days are the same. It also helps that I absolutely love my work! POPxo has evolved into India’s largest community of women - it’s something I am truly inspired by, proud of and excited about! It has taken years of hard work by a team of very, very talented and dedicated people - but it’s totally worth it.
But no matter how hectic my work life gets, I believe that eating well, exercising and putting in the effort to look after myself is imperative for my wellbeing. It’s not about looking a certain way, it’s about feeling good and comfortable in your own skin. I had my first child, a boy, when I was 25-years old. I went from a healthy 52 kilos to a whooping 85 kilos. My body had changed in so many ways that, after a point, I stopped keeping track. I was eating pretty much everything in sight! After delivering my baby, a healthy beautiful boy, I came back home to a body I couldn’t really identify with any more.
By the time my son was 6 months old, I was ready to do something about my weight. But I didn’t want to go about it through crash dieting. I wanted to eat well and work out. I began by walking every day, graduating to a jog. Soon, I was running a kilometer comfortably and it built up from there. I started using my own bodyweight for exercising - lots of lunges, pushups and planks. The exercise band was another constant. The results began to show. It took six months, but the discipline paid off.
Today making time for myself to exercise is a promise I make to myself every single day. It becomes even more important as I am even more busy with work. It’s something I need to do. It’s my sanity.
My advice to women would be to realise that now is your time to shine. Don’t be afraid to dream big and chase success. Know your strengths and play to them. Stand up for your rights and demand what you are due - but do it persuasively and politely. It is your time now. Work hard for your dreams - as that’s the only way they come true."
