I have extremely oily skin, not just the T-zone but my entire face. So my skin is prone to blackheads, whiteheads, acne and a thousand other problems. It can be really annoying to wash your face a million times during the day. Because of this reason I’m always up for experimenting with different face packs and masks, mind you - only homemade packs.
A few days back I came across a video where the vlogger was trying this black coloured face mask. I was curious to know what that mask was made of, so I clicked on the video link. It turned out to be a mask made up of activated charcoal tablets! I was even more interested now, so I googled everything about activated charcoal to check if it was safe for all skin types or not. After reading about it thoroughly, I decided to try the mask too. So I bought a few activated charcoal tablets from the chemist and tried the face mask first. The tablets are inexpensive and are easily available in the market.
What I did was, I crushed two tablets and mixed the powder with water. I applied the paste on my face and let it dry, which took around 20 minutes. Then I washed my face with lukewarm water. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to work, but my face felt so soft and the number of whiteheads had definitely decreased. Since that day, I’ve been applying this face pack every week.
The next thing I tried was, mixing the powder with glue. Yes, glue! I had seen someone who tried this mask and applied it all over her face. But I also saw it was painful for her when she tried to remove it. So, I decided to take baby steps. I mixed the charcoal powder with glue and a little bit of water. With the help of a Q-tip I applied the paste on my nose and chin. These were the areas where I had the maximum number of whiteheads and blackheads and honestly, I was sick and tired of getting them removed every week at the parlour. I left it to dry for about half an hour as the paste was made of glue, so it took some time to dry.

I was a bit scared to remove the mask as I knew it would hurt, but it had to be removed, right? I started removing the mask from my nose and it just wouldn’t come out, it was stuck! I panicked a bit but gave it another shot. This time it started coming out but it was a tad painful. Once I removed the mask, I saw whiteheads stuck to the mask. This made me really happy as my nose was so smooth and soft. But I noticed that it didn’t remove any of the blackheads, so I grabbed my blackhead remover and started working on my nose. The activated charcoal mask didn’t remove the blackheads from my nose but it sure pulled them out a bit. It was quite easy for me to remove them with the help of my blackhead remover and voila, my blackheads were gone!
Similarly, the whiteheads on my chin were stuck to the mask and it was extremely smooth and soft. All in all, this glue based charcoal mask was effective but I wish it helped me get rid of the blackheads as well.

I am not sure if I would try the glue based mask frequently because it’s painful to remove, albeit effective. On the other hand, I’ve been using the first pack I mentioned quite frequently and it makes my skin glow and keeps it smooth and soft. I’m glad that I came across this face pack!
