If you’re interested in someone, you’ve got to let him know in some way, right? For those who turn into a bundle of nerves in such a situation, here’s our guide to smart, subtle flirting that should give you a 75% success rate. Good enough, we say, if we meet with success at least 3 times out of 4! Read on...
1. Just Smile!
Yes, very obvious - and also very true. We often underestimate the power of a smile.
Smiling is the first step if you want someone to know you’re open to talking and starting a conversation with them. It’s a subtle way to let someone know that you have let your guard down, just a little bit.
2. Ask some questions…
Don’t be afraid to ask questions when you’re having a conversation. A few questions here and there (related to the conversation that you’re having) will give him the impression that you’re interested and engaged in the conversation. Isn’t that the point?
3. Don’t get too personal, too fast!
Jumping right on to asking him his relationship status is just not the way. Try and be slightly more subtle if you want to ask him some personal questions. Start with a story about yourself or just talk a little about yourself - again, without going overboard - and he will start to open up too.
It’s great to share a few funny or interesting stories of your own - but giving away too much too soon leaves no room for curiosity. Remain a little bit of a mystery - things are always more interesting that way! Plus, you’ve probably heard that guys enjoy the chase, right? Leave a question he asks you, unanswered, every now and then.
5. Be conscious of your body language
Your body language makes a world of difference. For example, guys like it when girls just flick their hair to one side while talking to them. Just gently put your hair behind your ear while talking to him, if you don’t want to be too dramatic! Don’t stand with your arms crossed, for instance - as it indicates that you are super shut off. These little things that we often do unconsciously, make a huge difference!
Casually touch his arm while you’re having a conversation - it immediately sends across all the right signals!
7. Try the mirroring technique!
One of the quickest and easiest ways to create an intimate sense of familiarity with someone is to mirror their movements. What this essentially means is that when you’re talking to someone you’re interested in, just subtly try and imitate their movements. Now, this doesn’t mean that you start doing everything they’re doing - but you subtly match their movements. So, for example, if he leans forward on the table while talking to you, you slowly do the same. If you see him picking up a glass, go for your glass too. If he makes certain hand gestures while he’s talking, make similar hand gestures while you’re talking. Again, you don’t need to do the exact same thing that he’s doing, just something close enough. This will create a sense of being in sync for the both of you, and surprisingly help you to build a rapport and get more comfortable, faster.
