All of us dream of having a great summer bod but, for most of us, it remains a dream! This is because, sometimes, you just need that little extra push (from a friend, family member or partner) to get on the fitness bandwagon. Having said that, you don’t really need an expensive gym membership and a personal trainer to get fit. It’s almost as simple as finding what you love to do. Here are 6 ways to get fit WITHOUT the gym.
1. One word - Yoga!
Yoga is a great way to get fit and you can practice it at home! There are various free apps you can use on your phone to learn the positions. There are also apps like FitStar Yoga, that allow you to personalize your workout depending on your skill level and to the amount of time you have to practice. So even if you are new to yoga or an expert and have 10 minutes or 1 hour, you can fit the workout, around you. Some yoga instructors also arrange free classes in public parks on weekends, so be on the lookout!
2. You can keep your own pace
The best and worst part about joining a gym is the personal trainer. They push you to do just one more set or run one more kilometer! It’s a good thing but it’s quite impossible to have the same enthusiasm everyday. When you work out on your own, you can move according to your pace and enjoy every bit of it.
3. It’s easy to track your active minutes
One of the best ways to stay fit and healthy is to track your active moments throughout the day, and not just your workouts. Gone are the days when your weight was the only thing you could track! Nowadays, along with tracking your weight, you can keep a tab on your steps and distance you’ve walked as well as calories burned. How? With the Fitbit Alta, of course. It has great features like reminders to get you moving each hour so you don’t forget to stay active, plus, vibrating alarms to wake you up and text and calendar notifications via your wrist. It even automatically monitors your sleep and records it in the Fitbit App for you to review, encouraging you to have a rested night’s sleep so that you are ready to take on the next day.
4. Take advantage of outdoor gyms
Outdoor gym equipments have been installed in almost all public parks in some cities. They’re easy to access AND they’re free to use! Not to mention, they’re out in the open so it’s a great way of getting fresh air while getting fit. They consist of simple equipments like sit-up benches, pull-up rods and chest press machines. Why aren’t you using them already? :D
5. You can workout with besties
Your besties are probably all levels of broke, just like you! And we all know that gym memberships can be costly. So what better excuse to get together and workout at home or in parks? You guys can push each other when the other is feeling lazy and the competition makes it even more fun. Friends who sweat together, stay together!
6. You can change your routines
Following the same workout routine everyday can get boring and might even push you to stop exercising completely. But when working out on your own, you’re able to build regimes that you can stick to and enjoy! Having the flexibility to try different exercises each week or month means you can be kept interested and motivated rather than avoiding your workout sessions.
