#MyStory: How Breaking My Leg Brought Us Closer Together!

As it happens in most arranged marriages, our courtship period was the time my fiance, Raghav, and I got to know each other better. I lived in Indore while he lived in Nagpur. So, for us it was more of talking/ chatting on the phone than meeting each other.

Once, I was visiting Delhi to meet my school friend. Since she had to go to work for a couple of hours, she told me to be ready before 12 so that we could go shopping as soon as she came back from her office.

At around 11 am the doorbell rang and when I opened the door I saw Raghav standing there. I couldn’t believe my eyes… he had planned to surprise me, and my friend was his partner in crime. He had made plans for the weekend and I was so happy that I was getting to spend one whole weekend with him.

We spent Friday at the Palace of Dreams and on Saturday we went to Qutub Minar. There I twisted my ankle. I could hardly walk, so we asked for help from the nearest policeman, and went to the closest medical shop in the police van. After applying an ointment and putting on a crepe bandage we went shopping as my leg wasn’t hurting that bad.

However, after an hour or so my ankle started hurting again, and this time the pain was worse… I was unable to even walk. We quickly went to the nearest hospital, we were really worried. Though tensed, Raghav was calm and composed. It was really nice to see the way he cared for me.

After an X-ray we came to know that I had suffered a hairline fracture and the doctor told me that I should go back to my home asap. We had told him how we were in Delhi just for the weekend.

I booked a flight ticket for the next morning but the problem was I had not told my parents that Raghav was in Delhi. In fact, I had told them that I had shopped the whole day on Friday with my friend. Now, I had nothing to show them as I hadn’t been able to shop thanks to the fracture.

Raghav and I decided to pick some clothes to show my parents. We went back to the mall, I got on a wheelchair and he helped me shop. People were staring at us wondering why a girl with fractured leg had to shop and not stay at home. But I was having the best day of my life. It was fun and romantic to see him do all this for me. 🙂

When we reached my friend’s place, he carried me to her third floor apartment. There couldn’t have been a better ending to that amazingly adventurous day. He dropped me to the airport the next morning.

I know the trip did not go as he had planned but it turned out to be the turning point in our relationship. It showed us how good we were together while handling a crisis and it brought us closer. It made me fall in love with him.
