Dear magazines (and other people of the world),
We got arms. And we got armpits. We even got underarm hair - which we tend to deal with as best as we can! We also have other things happening in our armpit area. Like creases, occasional fuzz even when we’re relatively hair-free, little bumps that we can’t Photoshop away - and why should we bother, really? What we don’t understand, then, is why YOU feel the need to airbrush so damn much. Especially when it comes to people who look like Priyanka Chopra - gorgeous by ANY standards of beauty. PC is a powerhouse in her own right. We can’t say that it has nothing to do with her looks (let’s be realistic: it definitely helps to look stunning) - but it has just as much to do with her drive, talent, ambition. So why turn something that could have been a celebration of how awesome PC is into a controversy about why her armpits have been Photoshopped?
Priyanka Chopra hasn’t really said anything yet about her completely unreal underarms for Maxim India’s June/ July cover, but she did post a #NoFilter Instagram picture of her armpits. And guess what? They look JUST FINE.

In fact, they look better than fine. I wish my armpits looked like that all the time. But this is what they look like right now - and I’m neither embarrassed nor uncomfortable about that.
And I dare you to airbrush them into something you think is a more acceptable, visual representation of what women’s underarms “should” look like.
Actually, talking about real underarms, here’s my colleague Shivani - and her armpits.
Doesn’t she look great? Like she’s having fun in life posing for this picture, completely un-bothered by what her armpits may or may not look like?
Well, then, STOP with the maniacal airbrushing, yeah? We got armpits, and it’s cool. The only way for us to not have less-than-“flawless” armpits would be if the human species didn’t have arms at all.
Thanks, and best,
