Making your guy meet your parents for the first time can definitely be nerve-wracking. But there are always little things you can do to make the whole process a lot simpler, sweeter and tension-free! Here are a few sweet ways to break the ice and introduce him to your parents.
1. Get both parties to make something the other likes
So your mom makes amazing Chinese food and your guy loves Chinese? Ask her to make it when he’s coming over. Or he can actually bake an amazing walnut pie (his grandma's recipe)?! Ask him to bake it and bring it over. A personal touch is the sweetest thing and also an amazing ice breaker. :)
2. Make it a date!
Why not try going somewhere everybody loves to eat/drink at? Pick a nice, comfy, yet happening place in town, and make it a date! Being at a place everyone can feel relaxed in and not have to worry about every little thing (read: food, serving food, making sure the house looks great!) can really ease some pressure - which will naturally be there.
3. Ask him to dress to impress your mom!
Moms always have these specific things they appreciate in boys, no? And it all begins from the way they present themselves. While good manners is on top of the list, how he presents himself sartorially also matters. So ask him to wear something you know your mom thinks always makes boys appear “very smart”!
4. And also, tell him about some of your mom’s favourite things beforehand!
So that they have more to discuss! You know the things that will really make them connect - so help him get started there.
5. And what about dad’s favourite sport?
Men bond like anything over sports. Don’t you agree?! Tell him about your dad’s favourite football or cricket team. If your dad is the golfing type, set up a round of golf for them. Trust us, there is nothing that will break the ice and get them more comfortable around each other than bonding over some sports they both love and enjoy!
6. Get him to meet your siblings first!
Okay seriously, if he bonds well with your siblings, nothing like it. Ask him to make an effort with your siblings - and make them all hang out before he meets the parents. If your siblings love him, they will make sure your parents do too!
7. Invite him over on a special day
Call him over to your place on a special day. Whether it’s a day you’ve just had a small puja in the house or a family member’s birthday - having him over when the atmosphere is happy and positive will make the whole process smoother. And he’ll get to meet everyone too!
