#BeautyDiaries: I Opened My Eyes… To Uneven Eyebrows!!

My Punjabi genes have endowed me with full, bushy eyebrows. But since this was before Cara Delevingne made them trendy, I had to resort to threading to tame them. All my life, I’d had them threaded at a trusted parlour in my hometown. When I moved to Delhi for college, however, I made the very stupid, very horrible decision of saving a few bucks and getting them threaded at a super cheap place in North Campus.

BAD IDEA.

My ordeal began when the parlour lady pinned me down in her plastic chair and took out her thread. Without even asking me how I wanted my eyebrows, she started going at them with full force. Between gasps of pain and with stinging eyes, I asked her to go easy. She gave me an exasperated look and picked up a pair of scissors that were too big for trimming brows. But being the timid little mouse that I am, I kept my mouth shut, closed my eyes and let her rage on her path of destruction.

In under five minutes, she had threaded my brows and slapped on some moisturizer on them. When I opened my eyes, however, I realized that my ordeal had just begun.

My eyebrows were uneven!

Uneven eyebrows

While my right eyebrow was round and thin, the left one was arched.

I demanded that they be fixed, but the damage was already done. What the parlour lady did in the name of fixing them only made the problem worse. I was almost in tears when I left the place (but that may also have been because of all the stinging from her inept threading).

Over the next few months, I tried everything to correct my mismatched monstrosities. From eyebrow pencils that made my face look graffitied to rubbing olive oil on them in hopes of making them grow faster, I did it all. I went about my days looking constantly surprised, with one eyebrow higher than the other, and fell asleep at night praying for a miracle. In one moment of desperation, I even tweezed off a few hairs from the arch. Another big mistake – one that I still haven’t recovered from.

It’s been over three years now, but you can still see the after-effects of that fateful day on my face. My eyebrows have never really recovered from the disaster, in spite of the fact that I went to about twenty different beauticians after that. Even though they look slightly better now, if you look closely, you will still see how one is higher than the other.
