First Job? 6 Genius Ways To Make A Great Impression!

First Job? 6 Genius Ways To Make A Great Impression!

Moving from college to your first job can be pretty stressful (we’ve been there!). Everything from the long hours to the routine simply add to the stress. And while you can be super focused on day 1, it is easy to lose steam in the long run. We bring you 6 fail-safe ways to stand out  at work especially on those 5 days of the month!

1. Checklists and post-its to the rescue!

Make notes! That’s an important lesson to keep in mind while at work. There are so many things to process in a stressful environment and sometimes things might slip your mind. Making a habit of making notes and then ticking them off once they’re done helps you work in a more organised manner without missing anything. Moreover, pretty, colourful little post-it notes around your computer screen just make you seem more into your work. *wink*

2. Be a power center

There are bad days and then there are REALLY bad days!. But that shouldn’t get your spirits down. Make sure you start your weekdays with a healthy breakfast to power you through the day and then keep healthy snacks in your desk drawer to curb the munchies. When you’re feeling low, take a walk or make yourself a coffee. Being unpleasant to your colleagues because you’re low never leads to anything good.

3. On your period? Even more reason to rejoice!

Cramps, PMS, odour and the fear of staining can keep you worried all day, especially if you’re at work. But don’t let those 5 days be a downer (literally!). Use a sanitary pad that keeps you odourless and unworried all day.  The new Whisper Ultra  provides comfort and prevents stains at the same time. And for the PMS? This inspiring video will help you get through the day. It features India’s badminton elite, Ashwini Ponappa, Anahita Dhondhy – India’s youngest female professional chef  and Ayesha Aziz – the youngest female pilot from Kashmir. They don’t let their periods stop them, why should you?

4. Be A Friend… To EVERYONE!

It might be essential to maintain a professional environment at work but that doesn’t mean you can’t make friends. In fact, making friends might be the only way to deal with the pressure and constant bickering from the boss *wink*. So go introduce yourself at work, and get acquainted with people from other departments. Be the friendly, reliable teammate at work. It will do wonders for your confidence.

5. Train those bat ears

Keep your head down and do your work. This is the advice we’ve all gotten, right? Time to change the old, new-age office ethics say you should be aware of your surroundings and of the people that you work with. Know who does what at work and which department does what. This helps your work get done faster (the tech department will respond quicker if you have tech glitches for example) and also gives you a better perspective of how things work.

6. Do NOT compare yourself to someone else

Don’t compare yourself with anyone at work, this can cause resentment and take your attention away from the task at hand. While competition is good, it should be healthy. Do not get bothered by how much someone earns or what someone’s designation is. As long as you’re focusing to be an efficient employee, you’re likely to get a promotion.

Define your own path at work and break out of the monotony. Just like Ayesha Aziz, Ashwini Ponappa and Anahita Dhondhy – three young women in India who have made their mark in their respective fields. They didn’t let their periods bring them down and have learnt how to #OwnThose5Days. Instead of it being 5 days of misery, let your periods become a symbol of your strength and unstoppable spirit.
