Dressing right for your body type is all about getting the proportions right. It doesn’t matter whether you’re petite or large, or thin or big-boned - people of vastly different sizes can still share a body type, which has everything to do with proportion and little to do with being slim, healthy or well-rounded. So here are some tips for what different body types should look out for when picking out a blouse for your Indian wear!
This is a common body type among Indian women - it means your hips are larger than your bust, and your waist is not too small, and gently slopes into your hips. The more vintage styles of blouses - like this classic Sabyasachi blouse style - look very flattering with this body type, because a stiffer neckline defines your shoulders well. This balances the upper half of your body against the width of your hips. And a cut out back is an excellent idea for adding some drama!
A spoon body type means that the hips are larger than the bust, but unlike in a pear-shaped body, the waist in a spoon body is much better defined, and slightly smaller than the bust. Wearing a cropped blouse with spaghetti straps can work really well for such a body type, because it highlights the shoulders and also draws more attention to the breasts, going straight for the red-hot glam look!
Having a straight body type means that your waist is slightly smaller than your bust and hips - both which are more or less the same size. Well-fitted cropped blouses with a high or a boat neckline, like the one above, work great for such bodies because they amply show off your waist, while also accentuating your breasts in a not-scandalous way - giving you all the curves you need to rock your ethnic clothes!
… With a scoop necked blouse! Considered the epitome of beauty for many centuries before the 20th, the hourglass figure means having a bust and hips of basically the same size, and a well-defined waist, which is narrower than both the bust and hips. A deep scoop neck blouse can do wonders for such a body type by showing off the collarbone and the bust, and accentuating the curve of the waist at the same time.
A top-hourglass body type is pretty much like an hourglass body type, except unlike an hourglass body, the bust in a top-hourglass is larger than the hips. A tube-cut blouse, like here, is a great idea for such a body type, because the strap portion of the blouse will work to balance the size of the breasts against the hips. But it is important that such a blouse be short-cropped and not use too much length! Otherwise all that flowy material will make your waist disappear, and also make your hips seem way wider than they are!
If you’ve a large bust, narrow hips, and a waist which is not all that well-defined, you’ve an inverted triangle body type. A peasant-cut blouse, as worn by the model on the left, is a good option for such a body type, as it will show off your shoulders, balancing out the bust area. Plus, all that volume on the blouse will also give flattering definition to your waist.
A diamond-shaped body type means that your waist is larger than the bust and hips, and compared to your hips, your shoulders are narrow. Commonly also dubbed the apple-shaped body, it often also means that your breasts are small to medium in size. A blouse with a sweetheart neckline (or variations of it) looks super cute on such a body type because it adds a lot of emphasis on the bust, while also showing off your collar bone, which is a trick that balances the size of your waist against the upper half of your body. All in all, it will make you look well-proportioned and sexy!
If your waist is larger than your bust and hips, your breasts are medium to large, and your hips are narrow in comparison to your shoulders, then you have what is called the oval body type. A blouse with a vertical, deep neckline, like the one here, will not just show off your ample breasts, but also make you look taller. This illusion of height will balance the width of your waist against the rest of your body, giving you just the right proportions and a simple charm!
