A hopeless romantic, I always wanted to fall in love and have this amazing love story, but as it turned out I was the only single person in my friends’ circle. This changed during one of our class trips, though, when I noticed a guy. We had been classmates for a year, but somehow that day I found him attractive. Maybe the beautiful scenery and the pleasant climate had something to do with it – I just couldn’t stop staring at him. It felt as if I was seeing him for the first time. And later that day I noticed him staring at me too.
After the trip we had a vacation for a few weeks and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Then one day, out of the blue, I got a text from him. I was pleasantly surprised. We started talking and would speak for hours. I was young and in love with the idea of love. I was falling for him; he was like a dream come true for me.
Our classes resumed and one day he asked me out on a date. It was my first date and obviously I was very nervous. That day I knew I was in love. Not just an idea anymore, I was experiencing the real feeling. He had swept me off my feet. He was my world.
We were getting serious about each other and we both knew we wanted to marry. But our families were against this marriage; we belonged to different castes. After two years of bliss our relationship started going through the worst time ever. We would fight often; he was always too busy to talk. The relationship was getting very stressful for both of us.
A few months went like this and then I got a call that changed my life. It was from his mom and she told me to come to their house. When I reached, my boyfriend’s friend was there. I was not very fond of this girl. I was confused as to why she was there, but I had a gut feeling that something was not right. And my intuition was absolutely right; his mom revealed to me that he had been seeing this girl for a while now. I started crying and his mom consoled me.
Then he was called into the room and I confronted him. He couldn’t even look me in the eye. The only explanation that he could give me was, “I fell for her … I just fell in love with her.” It was this statement of his that left me shattered. The only question I asked him was whom would he choose. I had to know the answer, even though it wouldn’t have changed anything. He took a long time to think and then he said he would choose me. This did not bring any relief to me, I was just numb.
We had been together for more than two years and had even made plans to get married, but when things got tough he went to another woman. I just stormed out of his house. For the next few days, he apologized to me and tried to convince me to accept him back. He said the other girl didn’t mean anything to him, again and again. But there was no way I could forget what he did or forgive him for breaking my heart.
