2015 was definitely the year of the braid. We’ve seen pretty much every kind of braid now and the trend is carrying forward well into the new year. Before you try to rock a few uber cute braids, it’s pretty important to get your basics right - we’re talking about the French braid. It may seem complicated and hell of a lot intricate, but it’s not as difficult as you thought.
We give you a step-by-step guide to French braiding your hair. With a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to French braid your hair like a pro. Get ready to rock every kind of braid you ever wanted!
Step 1: Brush out your hair to get rid of any tangles before starting your braid.
Step 2: Start by taking a section on the top of your head in the center. Make sure it isn’t too thin or too thick. Divide it into 3 and cross the right section over the middle and then the left of the middle, like in a regular plait.
Step 3: Pick up a thin section of hair from the right side and add it to the right section before crossing it over to the middle. Then, add a thin slice of hair to the left section and cross it over to the middle.
Step 4: To French braid, you have to basically add a new piece of hair to each section before it crossing it over to the middle. Continue doing this down to nape of your neck (or till you have no more hair left to add). Finish off with a basic braid/ plait down the rest of your hair and secure at the ends.
It’s actually pretty easy, right? After a few tries we promise you’ll be French braiding your hair in under a few minutes. Watch this easy tutorial video to really help master it.
