In Sooraj Barjatiya’s latest, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sonam Kapoor looks exquisite in all those bright ornate outfits, along with the magnificent jewellery that she adorns in most of the scenes. The overall look only spells one thing. Grandeur! We’ve taken some major inspiration from the movie to design our next lehenga for all the shaadis coming up! We present to you a breakdown of what to really tell your tailor to get Sonam Kapoor’s look on point!
1. Look At That Brilliantly Coloured Choli!
This colour looks like it’s out of our most vivid dreams. The yellow to match that green, it’s so refreshing, isn’t it? Now look at that choli, the rounded silver motif on the arm makes us want to get that elbow sleeved blouse and skip those sleeveless ones! The double border with the delicate piping is something we can incorporate in our other blouses to give it that sweet finish too! We say you go for a backless version of this one and match it with any complementary colour of your choice. Don’t be scared, just go for the blast of a pop colour and dazzle! She looks so lovely, we would totally want to get that demure but gorgeous look. This floor length wonder is one item we would love to have in our collection! Get your tailor to pick a flowy georgette fabric, get it ombre dyed gradiently, starting with cream on top and going to the turquoise shade. The embroidered jacket with scalloped edges can be an additional piece so that you can wear it with more outfits. The churidaar sleeve give this outfit such a graceful edge! Experiment with other shades too. If you are time crunched – pick a ready made fabric for the jacket!
3. The Deep Hue And The Exaggerated Border! Sigh!
We love the sheer dupatta with the heavily loaded border. The crimson with the deep purple makes it a very rich delightful combination. And what we like the most about this one is the extended border that forms a triangular shape going into the centre of the dupatta. Tell your masterji to do some ribbon embroidery to get this design and go for a blouse that is embellished too, since the lehenga is not too busy!
4. The Panelled Wonder With The Frilly Surprise!
This one right here is perfect for all you girls who do not want to go OTT but still want to wear something that is outstanding! Get your tailor to stitch a lehenga for you with solid and printed/ embroidered panels and see the magic it creates. Add an element of surprise by asking him to insert a couple of inches of gathered golden sequins around the midsection of the lehenga. You will definitely love the whole look, we promise! And let’s not ignore that broad red edging that peeps through while you swirl around. Add this to your existing dupattas too!
5. The Bold Colours And The Silver Bling!
What is a simple takeaway from this outfit is that shade of purple and that yellow. Get a salwar suit or a lehenga made in this combination. Add lots of silver to it, especially the way the blouse has the lines running through it in form of a fingerprint pattern! Mix and match different bold hues to get an outfit ready for this season. The trick here is that the colours are so strong that you don’t need to do much with your accessories and jewellery! The tiny motifs spread across the dupatta are so adorable too!

For this one, we suggest you go and pick a colour that goes best with your personality! There are a variety of colours in georgette fabrics available in the market! Pick one (we, of course, love the lavender colour here) and give it to your tailor to do some grapevine like embroidery in silver throughout the saree! Get a delicate border attached to both the edges of the saree and this can become one of those evergreen sarees that you can wear for years!
