Against popular belief, eating a diet with the right kind of carbs can actually aid weight loss. One simply needs to know the difference between carbs that are good for you and carbs that aren’t! Of course, portion control counts too. Here are a few carbs that can actually help you lose weight.

1. Whole Wheat Pasta


Yes, whole wheat foods are actually good for you and sometimes you just need pasta! A higher intake of whole grains is associated with lower BMI and lower abdominal fat. Plus, the fiber in these foods is filling and is satisfying and also allows one to eat the foods one craves. Which means less binge eating!!

2. Quinoa


With its high level of both fiber and protein, quinoa is considered a super carb! Protein as we all know helps you stay full for longer and is an important part of one’s diet. Just chop up some veggies and add to your quinoa (once you have rinsed and washed) to make a great dish out of it!

3. Popcorn


Seriously! When you’re craving chips or something salty, you’re hardly likely to pick up a bowl of fruit to eat. Just make yourself some popcorn! Popcorn, since it’s made of a whole grain, is a good source of fiber. It is also low in calories, which means you can actually consume a relatively large amount without consuming many calories.

4. Kidney Beans (Rajma)


Red kidney beans are full of fiber, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper and potassium. Eating beans also reduces chances of an increasing waistline (unless you decide to cook it with a lot of masala of course!)

5. Dates (Not more than two a day!)




Dates along with having a variety of health benefits can actually help you get rid of your sweet craving! Owing to their naturally sweet taste, they serve as a good substitute. However, make sure not to consume too many of these - while they are much lower in calories and healthier than any other dessert you actually may go for, they are rich in sugar and carb.

6. Berries


Berries are high in antioxidants and nutrients. They do contain sugar but also a high level of fibre, making it easy for our bodies to break the sugar down easily. So go ahead and eat those blueberries and strawberries that you love!
