It sure looks like life favours our favourite celebs and showers them with all things nice – great looks, money AND fame! Who wouldn’t love to have a little or ALL of their luck, right? But, believe it or not, life was just as difficult for these celebs when they were turning into young adults. 1. Alia Bhatt
Yes, she had a dream debut with KJo’s Student Of The Year when she was just 19 years old, but since then it’s only her hard work that has garnered her multiple successes in her nascent career. Anyone would have expected Alia to party away on her 21st birthday, but instead she chose to work for her then upcoming movie Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Guess hard work is the only sure way to success after all!

2. Deepika Padukone
Deepika took a major life decision to relocate to Mumbai and pursue her passion for modeling and acting when she was 21. Despite playing badminton all her life, she chose to give it up and join an acting school when she shifted to Mumbai. Many popular commercials, videos, pageants and acting lessons later she finally made her fabulous debut in Om Shanti Om. We all have our calling, we just need to be brave enough to follow it.

3. Arjun Kapoor
To think that this hottie could ever weigh an enormous 140 kgs and have trouble fitting into an airplane seat is a bit impossible. At 21 Arjun Kapoor wasn’t just overweight, but was also asthmatic, grumpy, super sluggish and had accepted it all as a way of life. Only years after practising an extreme fitness regime did Arjun become the stunner we now swoon over.

4. Akshay Kumar
Bollywood’s No.1 Khiladi seems to be getting even more irresistible with age. But back when he was 21, he was a regular kid pursuing a degree from Delhi University. Though mid-way through college, he decided to quit to learn martial arts in Bangkok. It wasn’t an easy choice for him, for he had to take up work as a cook and a waiter to support his lessons in Thai Boxing and Tai Chi. But all his struggle was worth it, wasn’t it?

Today she stands tall as the Queen of bollywood but her struggle started quite early in life, when she decided to leave her home town for Mumbai, as a 15-year-old girl. Six years later, at the age of 21, Kangana was just another girl trying hard to get noticed in Bollywood, to bag some good roles and to rise up from the league of actresses who no one remembers. Years of rejection, minor roles, criticism and unmatched perseverance later… she is amongst the highest paid and most loved actresses of our times.

6. Rihanna
Yes, this woman did win a Grammy at the age of 21, but all wasn’t well with her love life. Right after her 21st birthday, Rihanna broke up with Chris Brown after suffering from a horrendous assault by the rapper. She became a victim of a violent relationship and had pictures of her bruised and battered face flood the internet. But she came out braver and stronger from it and the rest, as they say, is history.

7. Taylor Swift
At 21, Taylor Swift was already America’s sweetheart, winning awards left, right, centre and everywhere else. She was dating some of the most good looking men in the world, and then using her break-ups to croon chart-topping number. If there’s anyone who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth, it has to be Taylor Swift!

8. Matt LeBlanc
Matt LeBlanc not only played a struggling actor on F.R.I.E.N.D.S, he was one in real life as well. He was training to become a carpenter after school, when he decided to make the big shift to NYC instead, to look for a job as an actor. Quite like Joey, Matt too struggled with commercials and little stints when he was 21. Hats off to him for learning to laugh at his fame as well as his failures. Teaches us not to take life too seriously!
