Sex During Your Period? NOT A Problem – Here’s Why!

Period sex is normal. Unless of course the thought of it grosses you out completely, it shouldn’t send you running out of the bedroom. While most of the anxiety of intercourse during our period can be credited to the mess it creates, some of the apprehensions we have can also be attributed to the misconceptions that surround period sex. Here’s busting those myths to give you and your partner no reason to EVER skip a session in the sack!

Myth 1: You don’t need to use a condom

This is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. If you’re on a regular cycle, you have fewer chances of getting preggers by period sex. But if your cycle is shorter (than the normal 28-32 day cycle) and you have sex on the final day of your period, you could definitely get pregnant (since sperm can last up to 5 days in the vaginal canal!). Apart from the pregnancy, you could also put your partner at risk of contracting STDs if you’re infected. Use protection! sex during periods 1

Myth 2: Women (should) hate period sex

On the contrary, most women are aroused more easily during their period. Apart from that, sex during your period is known to reduce menstrual cramps. So the next time you’re really in the mood for some action during your period, don’t hold back. sex during periods 2

Myth 3: It is messy to handle

Nope, doesn’t have to be. If you’re in bed, put down a dark towel over your sheets or use a rubber sheet if it isn’t uncomfortable. Better yet, move out of the bedroom and head to the shower. There’s no need of sheets and you’ll be squeaky clean when you’re done. Win-win! sex during periods 3

Myth 4: It can cause heavier flow

The reason this myth exists is because the contractions you have during sex can push some more blood out. That doesn’t mean you’re bleeding anymore than you usually do. Relax! sex during periods 4

Myth 5: Menstrual blood can harm his penis

Wait. What? Read that sentence again and see how ridiculous it sounds. A misplaced notion that many buy into is that period blood is impure and carries infections. The truth is that period blood is just a mixture of tissues and blood that the body doesn’t need. It can’t harm your partner unless you’ve got an STD (which is why you should be using a condom anyway!). sex during periods 5

Myth 6: Period sex can harm the uterus

Not true! His penis can’t actually reach that far in, you know. It is true that the mouth of the uterus does open up a bit during your period, but it’s too tiny a gap for his penis to get through and hurt your uterus! sex during periods 6 GIFs: Tumblr MUST-READ: 8 Period Myths EVERYONE Needs To Stop Believing!
