Anyone who has grown up in the nineties will agree that advertisements today pale in comparison to the ones we were brought up on. They had emotion, drama, brilliant dialogues, unforgettable music and such panache! Whether it was the Dhara “Jalebi!” ad or Cadbury’s “Kuchh Khaas Hai” ad, they always left you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. And there’s no reason why we shouldn’t relive that by taking a trip down ad memory lane every now and then… We bring you the best TV ads from the 1990s, when ads weren’t just commercials but adorable little vignettes spinning out lovely stories that shaped entire childhoods. :)

1. Cadbury

Beautiful music, a lovely concept and some superb acting, this ad remains in the heart of every ’90s kid :)

2. Dhara

THE best ad to have come out of India, ever.

3. Bajaj

This ad captured the essence of India’s newly emergent middle-class ethos, which aspired to modernity but still believed in simplicity and frugality.

4. Pan Parag

Ashok Kumar and Shammi Kapoor at their very best!

5. Classic Toothbrush

Raise your hand if you still use Classic toothbrushes!

6. Ujala

We spent hours imitating the Ujala “chaar boondon waala” step with our friends. We bet you did too!

7. Nirma

Hema, Rekha, Jaya aur Sushma ki pasand Nirma. :)

8. Action School Time

Who doesn’t remember these lines: “Classwork, homework, punishment, lecture, Goo-good morning teacher!”

9. Wonderful Doodh

This is just a brilliant jingle that made everyone want to drink milk. :)

10. Marie Gold Biscuit

Mary or Maaarie? :P

11. Liril

Admit it: you’ve acted this ad out countless times under the shower, haven’t you? :)

12. Lijjat Papad

The rabbit was slightly creepy, but so completely unforgettable!

13. Vicks

The “khich-khich” animation and jingle Vicks came up with has stuck around even after all these years because it’s just that awesome!

14. Perk

Preity Zinta made Perk look oh-so-delectable!

15. Mile Sur Mera Tumhara

Technically this isn’t an ad for a product... but in a sense it is. It was selling nationalism, after all!
