#RealGirlStyle: How to Dress When You Are Running Late!

We’ve all been there: staring at our closet, wondering what to wear when we know we should have been out of the door 30 minutes ago. Or waking up in a panic because the alarm totally failed us. But for a true-blue fashionista, that’s never a good enough reason to look less than perfect, even though it does put one in a terrible (sartorial) fix. So what does one do to keep their best-dressed status intact yet make the appointment/ meeting/ commitment in time (well, almost)? We decided to lend you a helping hand and give you a few pointers on how to dress when you are running late!

1. Opt for Classics

point1At a time like this, only a deemed classic can come to your rescue. Which is why we are always reminding you to stock up on them! When you have little time to think, only a fail-safe outfit can do the trick. Think blue jeans and a white blouse, a shift or sheath dress, a pencil skirt with a simple top or a smart blazer with just about anything. Stock up on neutral (nude, tan and black always work) footwear and bags as they are lifesavers! This is the perfect time to put the “sophistication in simplicity” adage to good sartorial use. And mind you, that doesn’t have to mean boring.

2. This Is Not the Time To Experiment

point2This is absolutely no time to experiment with a look that may warrant several changes or ample thought. For instance, if you decide to wear print on print, you may not be happy with the first combination, leading you to change several times to nail the look. In short, bad idea! Instead, printed pants with a fuss-free top is a better option. Nor is it advisable to try a new trend when you’re racing against time. Stick to something tried and tested.

Ones you can fall back on in times of crisis. It needn’t be elaborate, just a look that’s quick to put together. We feel dresses are always a good idea as they are easy to slip into.

It’s best to wear something absolutely simple and throw these accessories on. It instantly elevates your look and draws away from the fact that your outfit is a basic one. Often, if you’re bringing out this eye-catching accessory in front of a particular group for the first time, it turns out to be a great conversation starter as well!

5. Turn to a Fail-Safe Hairstyle

hairOver the course of the years (especially thanks to YouTube tutorials!), we’ve all learnt one or two quick DIY hairstyles. This would be a good time to use one. When you sport a hairstyle that’s different from your usual look, it diverts attention away from your outfit and to the new look. Which is just what you need at a time like this!

6. Amp Up Your Makeup

We don’t mean anything elaborate as that will take more time and defeat the very purpose of this article! Simply try a new lip or eyeliner colour, and you’re good to go – rather, make a quick dash!
