World Environment Day: A Guide To Making Your Routine More Sustainable

World Environment Day: A Guide To Making Your Routine More Sustainable

Ever stopped to think about how your own beauty routine can be damaging the environment? It may not seem like a big deal at first, but on closer inspection, even simple things like throwing away your shampoo bottle has an impact on our planet.

Now, I’m not trying to guilt you out of caring for your skin and hair, because making your routine more sustainable is fairly easy to do. If you’re eager to reduce your carbon footprint and make your self-care habits more eco-friendly, follow these simple steps.

Return To Recycle

Don’t just throw away your empty product bottles and tubs. Recycle them by following a simple wet and dry waste segregation at home or opt for brands that offer a recycling option for your used products. Many eco-conscious beauty brands allow customers to bring back their old empty packages so that they can be recycled. And they even offer perks for doing so.

The Body Shop is one popular brand that has a Return, Recycle, Repeat program in all of their stores across the globe.

Refill Instead Of Repurchasing

When you use up your favourite products, it’s time to restock them. Instead of purchasing a whole new product, check for a refill of the same product. Refills are offered by many brands and they help reduce waste by ensuring you keep the same packaging that you already have. It also reduces the manufacturing of more packaging.

Asa Beauty offers a refill of the foundation along with other products so you can remove the old cartridge and attach the fresh refill while keeping its original packaging.

Switch To Soap Bars

We run through shower gels and shampoo bottles every 2 to 3 months and that means we have to buy more after they get over. But switching to soap bars is more sustainable especially since there are no plastic bottles involved. Switching to bars of soap reduces plastic waste that accumulates from using shower gels and shampoos.

Shampoo soap bars are a thing and the Earth Rhythm Shampoo Bar With Biotin, Niacinamide & Ginseng Extract – Without Tin is such a great product!

Opt For Natural Loofahs

If you’re someone who loves bathing with loofahs like I do, you’re going to love this one. Since I like to change my loofah every month, using a plastic loofah is not a great idea. It contributes to plastic pollution that does major damage to the planet. Instead of plastic loofahs, I now use ones that are made of plant-based materials instead.

Try the Amala Earth Organic Loofah. It is made of plant fibres and infused with vetiver for a sensorial experience.

Ditch Single-Use Products

I loved using makeup wipes to clean my skin quickly after a party, but when I found out how damaging they are to the environment, I had to reassess my habit. I stopped using the product entirely and swapped it with a reusable makeup remover towel instead. Once the towel takes off makeup, you can throw it in for washing and reuse it after it dries. It will last for years.

Ditch single-use makeup wipes and opt for the reusable MakeUp Eraser Disney Villains 7-Day Set (Pack Of 7) instead.
