6 Times Designers Went Viral For The Most Bizarre Fashion Shows

Everyone wants to go viral on social media and Dutch fashion brand (di)vision cracked the code with their latest show!

The guests were seated around tables covered with wine stains, leftover food, and cigarette butts for di(vision)’s Fall/Winter 2023 show. But the most unusual twist was saved for last. The show was closed by a model who sat among the audience. She got up, adjusted her bodice, and walked away with the tablecloth discreetly attached to her skirt.

I’ve been watching the video on repeat and I’m here for this “go guts, no glory” era in fashion. (di)vision’s internet-breaking moment got me thinking of six more designers who created a buzz with bizarre runway moments.

When Coperni Dressed A Model On The Stage

Bella Hadid walked on the stage in nothing but nude underwear for Coperni’s Paris Fashion Week Spring Spring/Summer 2023 show. The supermodel was then dressed in a spray-on fabric. It was part of the brand’s initiative to give the audience a peak into futuristic fashion. Coperni collaborated with Fabrican Ltd for the show and gave us the most viral fashion moments of the year.

When The Models Kept Tripping

Models deliberately tripped on the runway during AVAVAV’s Spring/Summer 2023 show for Milan Fashion Week. Titled ‘FILTHY RICH’ the show was a satire on the superficiality of luxury fashion.  A gutsy move considering it was Beate’s debut collection for the brand! But then again, this is the woman who came up with the idea of selling “Kim K Wearable Bum.”

When A Model Snatched A Guest’s Bag

A model legit snatched wrapper JT Money’s bag during Mugler’s Fall/Winter 2023 show for Paris Haute Couture Week. Later, JT revealed that it was, in fact, staged. But kudos to both JT and the model for doing it so convincingly. I def bought it!

When All The Gucci Models Came In Twos

Gucci took twinning too literally for their Spring 2023 collection. 68 pairs of identical twins walked the runway for the Gucci Twinsburg show during Milan Fashion Week. It was inspired by Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s mom and her twin sister.

The casting must have been a pain. But I guess that’s the kind of lengths one goes to when you want to make a stylish exit. Yup, it was Alessandro’s last collection for the brand!

When The Models Didn’t Really ‘Wear’ The Dresses

Victor & Rolf’s 2023 Couture Collection showcase started on a fairytale note with voluminous gowns and glitter. But it soon took a topsy-turvy turn when models started showing up with 3-D printed dresses attached to their bodies. One of them was legit upside down!

When Balenciaga Didn’t Mind Ruining The Outfits

Imagine spending months designing a collection and then ruining it all by making the models walk on a mud-covered runway. That’s exactly what Balenciaga did during the Spring Summer 2023 show in Paris. Apparently, the messy set was a metaphor for “digging for the truth and being down to earth.”

At this rate, I won’t be surprised if designers randomly start dressing people from the audience. Honestly, I want that to happen… to me!
