Smriti Mandhana has proved to be a game-changer for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. She started playing professional cricket at just nine. Smriti’s record-breaking spree started in October 2013 when she became the first Indian woman cricketer to hit a double hundred in a one-day match. 2013 also marked her One Day Internationals debut in a match against Bangladesh followed by her 2014 test debut against England. She was named the Best Women’s International Cricketer by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2018. The same year, she received the honourable ‘Arjuna Award’ for outstanding performance in sports.
Power Move
Smriti was the only Indian to feature among the ICC nominees for the Cricketer of the Year honour in 2022 (across the women’s and men’s categories). She also topped the women’s T20 league bidding and was auctioned to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 3.4 crores. In 2022, Smriti hit the world’s best second rank in T20s. In the five-match Australia Women Vs Indian Women series, in December 2022, she made the record of hitting the most 50s while chasing in T20s.
