Celebrities Love These 4 Kitchen Ingredients For DIYs, Here’s Why

I love watching my fav B Town celebs spill the beans on their go-to beauty DIYs for the skin. There’s something about their revelations that are so wholesome, relatable, and desi. I recently noticed something about these recipes that felt so familiar.

There were some skin-loving ingredients that made a recurring appearance in all of their concoctions. The best part is that they’re probably sitting in your fridge RN. Check ’em out.

Honey

Think of honey as a moisturiser for the skin. It is perfect for dry, dull skin because it’s a humectant. This means that it seals in moisture effectively. Since it has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, it can treat acne, sunburn, and redness safely. It also contains antioxidants that can diminish lines, wrinkles, and other signs of ageing on the skin.

How To Include: Mira Rajput Kapoor mixes honey with turmeric to create a glow-inducing, exfoliating mask.

Turmeric

Turmeric, aka haldi, is brightness-inducing ingredient. That’s why it’s found in so many DIYs (think Ubtan). This is thanks to a compound called curcumin that brightens and repairs the skin. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antioxidant, and anti-bacterial properties that truly protect your skin from any kind of damage. Not only does it regulate the production of oil to prevent acne, it even prevents and fades spots and pigmentation.

How To Include: Tara Sutaria mixes turmeric with honey, yoghurt, and (chickpea) flour for brightening.

Rosewater

Rosewater is extremely soothing. It can calm redness and inflammation in seconds and heal burns and wounds quickly too. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. That’s why it’s amazing for puffy, swollen eyes. It removes dirt, oils, and build-from the skin by cleansing the surface gently and decongesting pores. That’s why it’s found in many cleansers too.

How To Include: Janhvi Kapoor mixes some rosewater with glycerin before sleeping to soothe and calm.

Yoghurt

Yoghurt, again, is just like honey. It is ultra moisturising. It can calm inflammation and kill acne-causing bacteria. It can stimulate the production of collagen — making the skin firm and tight over time. Since it contains lactic acid, it can exfoliate the topmost layer of the skin and reveal newer, healthier cells quickly. This doesn’t just make your skin glow. It fades pigmentation and scars as well.

How To Include: Janhvi Kapoor mixes a few tablespoons of honey with yoghurt and mashed-up banana to exfoliate and moisturise the skin.
