#BollywoodStyle: How To Get A Gorgeous Salwar Suit Stitched

We’ve all seen these rom-com movies and been inspired by the stories and characters but what about their clothes? And to be very specific, their Indian clothes! We’ve made a list of characters that we would love to dress like & exactly how you can incorporate their style into your look.

1. Geet from Jab We Met

Phulkari everywhere! Her outfits in the movie are the embodiment of a typical Punjabi. This embroidered outfit was designed Manish Malhotra, but you can always take some tips from it! The combination of hot pink and orange is common in desi wear and that’s ‘coz it’s always a hit. If phulkari embroidery seems a bit too difficult to get your hands on, go for some simple colourful embroidery and gold sequin work. We loved the big patiala salwars!

2. Meera from Cocktail

Without getting into a monologue about the story, we can all agree on one thing – both Diana and Deepika looked fabulous in the movie. While Meera was just another girl next door, her outfits do give us some great suggestions. The head-to-toe, covered in pink look is a bit much, but it can definitely be done with other colors. We suggest you to go out to your local fabric store and try matching a few shades of yellow, orange or green with your skin tone.

3. Gullu from Daawat-e-Ishq

While Bollywood obviously prefers the ladies in short kurtis and patiala salwars, this movie was full of beautiful and much loved anarkalis. Parineeti’s brightly coloured anarkalis were fitted till the waist and then flared out which complimented her figure really well. The blues and oranges will make for bold choice for occasion wear, whether it be day or night.

4. Shruti from Band Baaja Baarat

Anushka’s outfits in this movie are good examples of colour blocking. The detail we totally dig about her bright-coloured outfits is that are livened up with borders. If her kameez is purple, there would be a purple border on her yellow dupatta. You can even use the same gold border on all the pieces and just layer it on the hem of the kameez. You can actually do this with suits you’ve got bored off – they’ll get a brand new and exciting feel.

5. Kavya from Humpy Sharma Ki Dulhania

Alia was seen donning bright colours like yellow and pink in this movie. Yet all her outfits managed to fall somewhere in between casual and dressy. If you’re looking for a suit to fit those occasions, opt for a kameez with embroidery in the same colour so it looks subtle, and pair it up with a solid color patiala salwar. It’s just like adding an element of colour to an otherwise bland outfit.
