How to Make the Most of Your Bridal Jewellery

Joining the ranks of superstar sports couples like Sania Mirza-Shoaib Malik, Steffi Graf-Andre Agassi, we’ll soon be seeing gorgeous squash player Dipika Pallikal tie the knot with cricketer Dinesh Kartik. On being gifted wedding jewellery by her parents from Platinum Guild International’s new Evara collection, Dipika said, “It is a beautiful reflection of my parent’s blessings that I will feel every time I wear this jewellery. Besides, the modern and elegant look of platinum is something I love, it is my style so will wear it very often. Thank you Mom and Dad.” Awwww moment, no?

When your parents gift you something that’s so precious and beautiful on one of the most momentous occasions of your life, the jewellery becomes worth much more than just the combined value of diamonds and metal. Your wedding jewellery will always hold a very special place in your heart.

With the changing face of the Indian woman, her taste in jewellery has seen a change too – and we, for one, are glad! With contemporary designs now being available, modern brides prefer to buy jewellery that they know they’ll actually be able to use, not just save for future family weddings. And we’re going to show you just how to wear your wedding set with Western wear too!

1. The Layered Necklace

The diamond necklace you wore with a lehenga on your sangeet or reception is easily worn, paired with a strappy dress, for an elegant day affair. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing all the contents of your locker, so keep it simple. Just the necklace and your wedding band, a box clutch, sandals and a pair of sunglasses – and you’re all set.

2. Those Sparklers

The diamond sparklers you wore for the mehendi would look as stunning when worn with a simple crop top-midi skirt combo. Remember, though, a well-made outfit in rich fabrics is a better option than something that’s too shimmery. You don’t want to look tacky, do you? An updo would be our hairstyle of choice, to show off the earrings to their maximum potential. You can go all out sophistication, or add a bit of quirk via a funky clutch or shoes.

The bangle from your wedding set is one of the pieces you’re likely to use the most. Ever so versatile, pair it with a simple kurti for a ladies lunch, or wear it with a sharp peplum blazer pant suit, a leather bag and simple pumps to a conference. Either way, you’re going to have people asking you for a closer look!

4. The Diamond Necklace

We know what you’re thinking! “What?? Wear my diamond necklace to a party? Are you nuts?” NO! Sure, it’s not easy to get too much wear out of your reception jewellery. But if you think you’ll only be able to wear it again when your sister gets married, or to your son’s wedding, think again! Pair the stunner with a stark black or white dress. Opt for something that leaves the shoulders bare to make sure that your necklace is the main point of focus. The accessories and makeup must be muted and subtle. We don’t want to start a fight for attention!
