If you have limp hair you know you’ve spent your hard earned money on every product available-shampoos, conditioners and styling products that promise you beautiful voluminous hair, but fail to even add a slight bounce. If the only hairstyle you have sported till date comes with a scrunchy attached (read plait and a pony tail) we’re giving you a few tips to revolutionize the state of your hair!
Tip #1: The Hair Cut
Probably the best hair cut for you would be a short crop, something from your chin to your collarbone. The less the weight, the more the volume so you can choose between a pixie, a bob or a haircut with a lot of layers which will give it that extra bounce. You should avoid bangs and fringes.
Tip #2: The Blow Dry
When it comes to blow-drying, flip your hair and blow-dry it upside down, it’s the best way to get to your roots. You can run a brush through your hair to ensure that the heat is evenly distributed. Use a wide-barrel round brush as you blow-dry your hair. If your hair is curly you can run your fingers through it to detangle the curls. We don’t recommend you do this everyday because blow-drying damages hair due to the constant heat. You can also backcomb your hair to add more bounce. If you have a curling iron, use it to give a slight curl at the ends.
POPxo Recommends: This Philips Hair Dryer that will ensure that you have the right heat to set your hair.
Tip #3: The Hair Colour
You can even go a shade or two lighter in colour than your natural hair as the highlights generate the illusion of thicker hair.
POPxo Recommends: The L’Oreal Excellence Deep Plum Colour adds the fun to your hair, we’re loving this plum addition.
Tip #4: The Shampoo
A lot of women have limp hair due to an oily scalp. The oil at the roots weighs down the hair making it look limp and lifeless. So you need to wash your hair everyday with a light shampoo that will induce fullness and body without stripping hair of its natural oils. This will keep your scalp oil and grime free thus giving your hair some bounce. You can even go for a dry shampoo.
POPxo Recommends: Rice & Wheat Voluminizing shampoo by Kiehl’s is just what you need to add volume and keep it shiny and bouncy.
Tip #5: The Conditioner
This will surprise you, but y’all can forego the conditioner completely. If you feel that you need a conditioner ensure that you use it sparingly at the ends of the hair and never let it touch the roots. Wash the conditioner thoroughly out of your hair.
POPxo Recommends: Rainforest Volumnising Conditioner by The Body Shop or this Volumizing mask by L’Occitane is just what you need to keep your tresses in place.
Tip #6: The Styling Spray
Do not use a lot of styling products; unlike other types of hair that can withstand the heaviness of the styling products, your hair would just end up being weighed down. Instead of the usual heavy mousse and gel, opt for a light texturing spray that will give your limp hair bounce.
POPxo Recommends: This anti humidity and voluminizing spray by Garnier Fructis, a complete boon for anyone living close to the sea.
Tip #7: The DIY Deal
In a bowl, mix the white of an egg and 1/2 a cup of yogurt. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair, make sure you apply this mixture till the tips. Cover your hair with a shower cap so you don’t drip the mixture everywhere. Now, leave this pack for about 20-30 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo. If you have some flat beer lying around the house, you can rinse your hair out with it to give it some volume and shine.
Tip #8: The Hair Accessory
Last but not the least, when you’re having a bad hair day don’t wrestle with your hair. Just grab a colourful scrunchy and make a plait or a high pony-tail.
POPxo Recommends: These cutesy hair scrunchies from Accessorize are just what the doctor ordered.
