Darna Zaroori Hai: 20 Horror Novels You Should Be Reading In 2019

This story was updated in January 2019.

Some people read sappy romances for fun, some read funny books, some comics, and some mangas. Well, I belong to the category that enjoys scaring the hell out of myself when I read. There is something so amazing about the string of frightful images that pop up into your mind when you’re reading a really good horror novel. It may be even better than a cinematic experience because your imagination tends to run wild with scenes and scenarios. If you have just started exploring this genre, I have just a list of horror novels that you need to have in your 2019 reading list.

Of course, the list includes classics like Stephen King and Mary Shelley (and a few other vampire-obsessed authors), but I’ve divided the collection based on different points of interest and age groups, so you find exactly what you are looking for!

Why Do People Read Horror Books

Irish psychologist John Francis Leader explained that people like fear, which is why they read horror books and watch horror movies. “If you go back thousands of years, humans had to deal with physical fear more regularly… Now, generally speaking, we don’t get chased too often day to day,” he goes on to explain that fear can be a good thing and help us protect ourselves from danger. He also states that horror movies and books give you a rush of adrenaline, which can become addictive.

So, the next time you step towards a horror novel, don’t rethink your decision. It can enhance your surviving skills. Watch those horror movies, read those zombie books and binge-watch The Walking Dead because strangely, it all helps you.
